How to Clean a White Leather Handbag
A white leather purse isn't just for summer anymore, it's a great accessory for any season. A white leather handbag compliments so many wardrobe colors and can look casual, elegant or anything in between. Keeping a white leather purse clean, however, can present a challenge. Taking good care of your white handbag by not setting it on the floor of restaurants, bathroom stalls and similar places will help prevent soil from ruining your white bag. But no matter how careful you are, you may end up with a stain or unsightly soiling on your purse. If this happens, you can try several methods for removing the stain.
Instructions for cleaning a white leather purse:
Remove everything from your purse.
Pour some distilled water into a large bowl and add a couple of drops of liquid soap. Agitate the mixture until there are a few suds. Soak a sponge in the mixture, remove it and squeeze it until it's almost dry. Clean the handbag off with the sponge, paying close attention to the bottom and any nooks, crannies or seams where dirt tends to accumulate.
Remove ink stains by dipping a cotton swab in rubbing alcohol and gently swabbing the stain, then blow-drying the area with a hairdryer on the lowest setting.
Create a mixture of hydrogen peroxide and borax and apply it to any dark stains with a cotton swab and let it soak in for five minutes. Blot it with an almost-dry cloth or sponge.
Sprinkle cornstarch onto the purse and gently rub it in to remove grease stains. Leave it on for ten minutes, then gently brush it off.
Tips and Tricks
If your attempts to clean your handbag have failed, take your handbag to a professional leather cleaner.
If your purse just has scuffs and surface soil, use an eraser to gently rub the soil away.
Conditioning the handbag with a commercial leather conditioner will help repel stains and soil.
For tough stains try a Magic Eraser, but test it first in an inconspicuous area first.
